It’s 7:18pm, I’m sitting here writing this for you, the reader, and a question is arising in my head. Why am I excited for Kanye’s new album, “The Life of Pablo?” I’ve never really been a Kanye fan in general, so what is it that is making me so excited for his upcoming release? I mean, the album is supposed to drop today and I’m actually nervous for its eventual release…. this has never happened for any of his albums. To me, Kanye just doesn’t interest me as a rapper, I’d rather hear people talk about fashion Kanye than about rapper Kanye.
The definition of boasting is, “to speak with exaggeration and excessive pride, especially about oneself.” Mr. West is probably the biggest, greatest example of said definition. “I’m the greatest of all time,” -Kanye West. Kanye is probably hated by a lot of people just because of his sheer hatred for everyone. It seems as though Kanye likes to think of himself as a god, hence the album name Yeezus. But Kanye has a way with himself in that I really don’t want to like him, but he always ends up doing something to win me back over.
Flashing Lights is one of my favorite songs of all time, but recently I’ve heard zero tracks that I’ve liked from Yeezy. The only thing that has shed some light on him, in my eyes, was the sudden release of his sing;e, Facts. Kanye hasn’t been himself lately, he’s been smiling at cameras and, other than just recent, quiet on the music side of things. Maybe it’s because Kanye’s been wrapped up with Adidas and his clothing line, but in the end Kanye just hasn’t been Kanye.
The question of why I’m excited for his new album may have an odd answer. I’ve absolutely loved what Kanye has been doing with Adidas; everything from his sneakers to his sweatshirts, it’s been fantastic. However, because of the success he’s been having with Adidas, I feel as though that success will transfer over to the music side of Kanye. I’m thinking that if he’s had this much success away from music, hopefully he can ride the success train over to his music production. Whatever it may be, the time is now 7:36, I’ve written the fastest opinion piece of my career, and I’m still hoping that “The Life of Pablo” is going to be nothing but superb.
